> ## Agent Instructions
> Bitnob API requests authenticate with an `X-Auth-Client` API key header against https://api.bitnob.com.
> Always use the sandbox environment for testing. Never put live API keys in sample code.
> Money amounts are integers in the smallest unit of the currency (satoshis for BTC, cents for fiat). Never use floats.
> Every state-changing request takes a client-supplied `reference` and must be treated as idempotent on retry.
> Quotes expire. Re-quote rather than reusing a stale quote id.

# Set up your Bitnob Enterprise account

> Create your Bitnob account, issue a Bitnob Enterprise API key with the scopes each service needs, store it safely, and confirm it works.

This guide takes you from no account to a working Bitnob Enterprise API key: register, create a key with the scopes you need, and confirm it works.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Building on the Bitnob Business API instead? See [Set up your account](https://www.bitnob.dev/docs/getting-started/account-setup.md).

## Create your account

**1. Register**

Go to [accounts.bitnob.com](https://accounts.bitnob.com/auth/signup) and enter a valid email address.

**2. Confirm your email**

Enter the confirmation code we send you.

**3. Set a password**

Use at least 12 characters, with letters, numbers, and symbols.

**4. Sign in to the dashboard**

Go to [platform.bitnob.com](https://platform.bitnob.com/). The dashboard holds your API keys and settings.

> [!TIP]
>
> Invite your colleagues from account settings before you start building. Shared access avoids credential sharing later.

## Create an API key

The Bitnob Enterprise API uses a single API key, sent in the `X-API-Key` header. There's no request signing. Create the key in the Bitnob dashboard.

* **The key decides the environment.** A live key works on mainnet, and a sandbox key on testnets.
* **Each key carries a fixed set of scopes.** Create a separate key for each service, with only the scopes it needs. [Get API key info](https://www.bitnob.dev/api-reference/platform/meta/get-api-key-info.md) lists the scopes a key carries.

## Store your key

Store the key server-side only, never in client code or source control.

```bash theme={null}
PLATFORM_API_KEY=yourApiKey
```

In production, read it from a secret manager rather than a file.

## Verify your key

Call [Get API key info](https://www.bitnob.dev/api-reference/platform/meta/get-api-key-info.md). A `200` returns the key's name, its organization, and its scopes.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.platform.bitnob.com/v1/me \
  -H "X-API-Key: $PLATFORM_API_KEY"
```

A `401` with `not_authenticated` means the key is missing, wrong, or expired.

Next, make your first calls in the [Quickstart](https://www.bitnob.dev/docs/platform/quickstart.md).
